Have you ever had the feeling that you’re not good enough? Feeling that in order to be a better mum or wife, no matter how hard you try or how much you do, you always have to try harder, do more and put other’s happiness before your own?
An article in the Telegraph revealed that approximately 87% of mothers feel guilty of not being enough for their children. As if we don’t have enough on our plates when we become Mums, we still feel the need to knock ourselves down, too.
It’s my belief that a huge portion of that guilt has been put on us by the expectations of society and women feeling like we need to dedicate our lives to our families and if we do anything for ourselves, we are being selfish; when it couldn’t be more far from the truth!
We all deserve to live the lives that we want and if you want to be a Mum and a business owner, then structure your business around that lifestyle.
I believe that by keeping ourselves healthy and happy, by being motivated, determined and passionate, we are teaching our kids an even more important lesson: choose how you want to live your life and develop your career to fit that vision, not the other way around.
Yes, we are women, yes ,we can be mothers, sisters and wives but we can also be entrepreneurs, business owners, CEOs, speakers and authors. It’s not a case of being either a Mum or a successful business woman, we can be both!

So how do you do it?
Be clear on what you want
Firstly, you need to start with the end in mind. What do you want to spend your time doing?
Do you want to wake up every morning with the freedom to do whatever you like just knowing that you’ll be receiving money in your bank account?
Or do you want to wake up knowing you get to spend your time working in your business, doing what you love with the freedom to pick up your kids after school, spend the evening with your family and relax in front of the TV?
Getting clear on what you want your future to look like is the most important step so you know what you’re working towards.
Work out what you need
Now that you know what you want, work out what you need to get you there.
For example, if you know that you want to get money in your bank account without having to do something every day, you know that you need to create some passive income streams like online courses, books or other income generating assets.
On the other hand, if you know that you want to have the freedom to spend the day working in your business with the freedom to take afternoons off when you want, you need to create a product or service to offer your clients that will support that lifestyle.
Work out what you need to make your vision a reality.
Find someone that has done it
Now that you know what you want, you need to find the roadmap to get you there.
If you’re happy to work it out and take your time to develop your roadmap, then that’s great. But not many of us have the time to wait for trial and error, so the best thing to do is find someone that has done it!
Why? Because then they can show you how to do it faster and, most likely, better than they did it using the lessons that they’ve learnt.
They’ll be able to show you the steps to take so that you get the results you’re looking for, they’ll be able to guide you, keep you accountable and keep you moving forward so that there is nothing stopping you achieving your goals!
Just get started
The final and most crucial step is to actually start taking them! The sooner you take action, the sooner you can see how it works and keep learning, growing and succeeding.
For example, if you know that you want to have more passive income and you want to create an online course like Miralee, get started by thinking about what you’ll cover in the course. Draw out an overview of the content and who will benefit from the course. The hardest part is getting started but once you’ve taken the first step, it gets a lot easier!
But just because you have the ability to spend time how you choose, it doesn’t mean you have to stop spending time in your business, as long as it’s spending your time doing what you want, like Julia.
Julia used to work for the government in Australia as a writer, anything from tenders to operations manuals and so on, but her commute was terrible and she was spending a lot of time in hospitals with her wife who was unwell. Julia quit her job and started Red Ink Words, her own writing business for entrepreneurs. By having more freedom, her life has drastically improved, her wife’s health has drastically improved and they’ve sold their house.
