How Jewellery Shapes Perception & Identity

I was recently at a high-level networking event where nearly 65% of the attendees were women, confident, accomplished, and impeccably dressed. Their outfits were carefully chosen, their presence intentional, and their energy powerful. Yet one thing stood out to me, perhaps because I have spent nearly two decades in the jewellery industry:

Very few of them were wearing jewellery with intention.

Most had minimal pieces, a delicate chain, a wedding ring, something subtle and safe. Beautiful, yes. But not expressive. Not memorable. Not fully aligned with the powerful identity they were interested in projecting.

And that is a missed opportunity.

Jewellery Is Not an Accessory, It Is a Statement

In professional spaces, we often focus on clothing as the primary element of their presentation. Ignoring the importance of jewellery on their attitude, personality and appearance. The jewellery piece you carry has a unique role, it elevates you. It catches light, frames your face, and reflects your style, grace and essence.

More importantly, it communicates without words.

A bold gemstone ring can signal confidence.
Earrings enhance the face’s glow.
A thoughtfully chosen necklace can complete your story before you even begin speaking.

People may not consciously register these details, but they feel them. And perception, especially in business, is built as much on feeling as it is on fact.

The Psychology of Being Remembered

Think about the last time you met someone who left a lasting impression. Often, there is a visual anchor, a detail that stays with you. An interesting jewellery piece leaves a lasting memory, specially if it in authentic gemstone. So many times, gemstones not only give you that extra positive aura, they also become a communication starter with other women in a networking event.

Jewellery, when chosen with intention, becomes part of your identity. It gives people something to associate with you, something that differentiates you in a room full of equally capable individuals.

In a world where attention is limited and impressions are formed quickly, this matters more than ever.

Presence in the Digital World

This becomes even more powerful in virtual settings.

In online meetings, your visibility is reduced, usually just your face, neckline, and hands. That’s it. Your full outfit disappears from view. Your physical presence is compressed into a small screen.

And yet, many women still overlook this.

Your earrings frame your face, the focal point of communication.
Your necklace defines your neckline, adding structure and elegance.
Your rings and bracelets come alive when you speak and move your hands when talking, subtly reinforcing your presence.

These elements don’t just enhance your appearance; they also effect how you are perceived. When you reflect something authentic on you, it also reflects authenticity in your character.

Intentional Jewellery: A Simple Shift, A Powerful Impact

This is not about wearing more jewellery. It’s about wearing the right jewellery.

Ask yourself:

  • Does this piece reflect who I am today?
  • Does it align with the impression I want to create?
  • Does it feel authentic to me?

You don’t need a large collection. You need a thoughtful one.

A few well-chosen pieces, ones that resonate with your personality and energy, can transform how you show up in both physical and digital spaces.

A Personal Note

After 20 years in the jewellery industry, I have seen first-hand how the right piece can change not just how a woman looks, but how she feels, how she carries herself, and how others respond to her.

Jewellery is deeply personal. It is not just about beauty, it is about identity, confidence, and expression.

So the next time you prepare for a meeting, whether in a boardroom or on a screen, pause for a moment, and check yourself.

Don’t leave your presence incomplete.

Choose a statement piece that feels like you.

It does not have to be any big brand or expensive.
Wear it with intention.
Let it speak before you do.
