Geneva, 15 February – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is proud to announce the appointment of Mirela Sula as the National Goodwill Ambassador for Albania, as part of a broader initiative that has seen the enlistment of nine dynamic Goodwill Ambassadors. These individuals, from varied backgrounds including entertainment, sports, and arts, join Olympic champion Sir Mo Farah, IOM’s inaugural global Ambassador, in advocating for the positive facets of migration.
Mirela Sula, an acclaimed psychologist, journalist, and author, along with her fellow appointees, will dedicate their influence and platforms to highlight the opportunities and talents that migration brings to the global stage. The 2024 cohort of ambassadors embodies a wide range of talents and stories, from Ama K. Abebrese, an actress and television presenter from Ghana, to Club Atletico Peñarol, a distinguished football club from Uruguay, showcasing the diverse ways in which migration touches and enriches societies.
“I am thrilled to welcome these remarkable individuals, including Mirela Sula, as IOM’s new Regional and National Goodwill Ambassadors,” said IOM Director General Amy Pope. “Their experiences and achievements are sources of inspiration worldwide. Now, they’re set to make an impact in a new arena, joining our mission to promote well-managed migration and support individuals on the move.”
The selection of these Ambassadors followed a meticulous review process by IOM representatives in their respective countries, underscoring their commitment to making a difference in the narrative of migration. Mirela Sula’s appointment is especially significant, symbolizing not only her personal journey and achievements but also her dedication to empowering migrants and advocating for their rights and opportunities.
In her role, Sula will share her insights and experiences to foster a more inclusive understanding of migration. “This role is more than just a title; it’s a commitment to a cause I deeply believe in,” Sula remarked, emphasizing her resolve to be a voice for those facing migration challenges.
The 2024 Goodwill Ambassadors, including Sula, stand united in their mission to advocate for the human rights of migrants and to illuminate the positive contributions of migration. Dimash Qudaibergen, a popular singer from Kazakhstan, and Mouctar Diakhaby, a professional footballer from Guinea, are among the ambassadors who have expressed their pride and dedication to this cause.
Established in 1951, IOM is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration, advocating for humane and orderly migration to benefit both migrants and societies. The Goodwill Ambassador Programme is a cornerstone of IOM’s strategic vision to engage influential figures in spreading the message of respect, dignity, and opportunity for migrants globally.
